With today's daily energy on December 22nd, 2023, we are mainly affected by the influences of the winter solstice and, with it, the big monthly change of the sun into the zodiac sign Capricorn. For this reason, the energy quality is very special, because today the Yule Festival is celebrated, i.e. one of the four annual sun festivals. This sun festival, the winter solstice, always goes hand in hand with the full activation of winter. Ultimately, the winter solstice is often referred to as the true beginning of winter. Essentially, based on the heliocentric worldview, the Earth has reached the point in its orbit around the sun at which the northern hemisphere turns more towards the sun again. The peak of the winter solstice or this circumstance took place at 04:27 a.m. that night.

Energies of the winter solstice

In general, however, the winter solstice also marks a major turning point, because the day marks the darkest day of the year, when the day is the shortest and the night is the longest (less than 8 hours). The winter solstice therefore represents exactly the point at which the days slowly become brighter again and we therefore experience more daylight. Thus, after this special event, we are heading towards the return of the light (vernal equinox) and subsequently experience a return to the liveliness and activation of nature. Today is therefore extremely meaningful, because the “darkest day” of the year brings us a cleansing and, above all, clarifying energy quality that allows us to look deeply into our own being. It is not for nothing that this day was extensively celebrated by a wide variety of earlier cultures and advanced civilizations and the winter solstice was viewed as a turning point on which light is reborn.

The festival of light

The pagan Germanic peoples, for example, celebrated the Yule festival as a solar birth festival, which lasted 12 nights and stood for life itself, i.e. life that slowly but surely returns. The Celts, in turn, fasted on December 24th due to the fact that the cosmic power of the sun returns 2 days after the winter solstice and viewed the winter solstice as a point of lifestyle. At the end of the day, the winter solstice represents a highly magical celebration that has a significant influence on the natural cycle and also on our own field.
