With today's energy on March 20, 2026, we reach one of the most important days of the year, as today marks the annual and highly magical spring equinox. The festival, also known as the vernal equinox (Ostara) is known to represent the astrological beginning of the New Year. However, at the end of the day, one should focus much more on the true... We speak of the beginning of the year, because today, with the start of the solar cycle, marks the beginning of the new year. The sun has thus completed its journey through the zodiac signs and now re-enters the energy of Aries, and consequently the energy of the first sign of the zodiac.
Previously, for example in December, January, and February, we were still influenced by the final energies of Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. It was the time of winter, a phase that served both to release old energies and structures through deep reflection and, especially towards the end, to prepare us for the beginning of the new year. Today's spring equinox, which, incidentally, is the first of the four annual solar festivals, not only ushers in the new year but also marks the complete arrival of spring. In nature, a profound activation takes place on an informational level, causing flora and fauna to automatically adjust to this new quality of time and transition into the energy of growth. Ultimately, this also demonstrates the immense power inherent in the quality of today's equinox. For this reason, today was considered a highly magical festival in ancient civilizations. Generally, the four annual solar festivals are even attributed with a fateful energy.
The 4 Sun Festivals
1. Sun Festival: Yule (Winter Solstice, approx. December 21) 2. Sun Festival: Litha (Summer Solstice, approx. June 21) 3. Sun Festival: Mabon (Autumn Equinox, approx. September 23) 4. Sun Festival: Ostara (Spring Equinox, approx. March 21)
The 4 Moon Festivals
1. Moon Festival: Beltane (Walpurgis Night, approx. April 30/May 1) 2. Moon Festival: Lammas (Harvest Festival, approx. August 2nd) 3. Moon Festival: Samhain (Autumn Equinox, approx. September 23) 4th Moon Festival: Imbolc (light fair, approx. February 2nd)
Today marks the end of an old cycle and the complete beginning of a new phase. Thanks to the accompanying Aries energy, we are experiencing a complete upswing and forward momentum in this regard, as hardly any other zodiac sign bestows upon us such a fiery drive for change as Aries.
Festival of Reconciliation
At the same time, the energetic quality of balance is paramount, because from a purely energetic perspective, a state of absolute equilibrium is occurring today. As already mentioned, all of nature is emerging from the dark winter season and entering the cycle of growth/light. At this particular moment, day and night are exactly equal in length, revealing a state of perfect balance between light and darkness. This equilibrium is not only reflected in external natural phenomena but also deeply affects our inner being.
"Nature fully awakens from its deep slumber. Everything begins to blossom, to awaken, to shine. Applied to our lives, and especially to the current situation, the spring equinox therefore always represents the return of light – the beginning of a civilization that now has the opportunity to ascend massively. Furthermore, a balancing of forces takes place. The dualistic forces come into harmony – Yin/Yang, day and night are of equal length – an overarching balance occurs, allowing us to fully experience the hermetic principle of equilibrium."
Opposites such as activity and rest, giving and receiving, or even intellect and intuition find a harmonious balance on this day. It is an invitation to realign ourselves and come into harmony with natural rhythms. Old tensions dissolve as clarity emerges. In this way, the spring equinox opens a powerful field of centering, from which we can consciously and strengthened enter the new cycle.
The Mercury Year
On the other hand, the new year also brings a new ruling planet. Last year, Venus reigned (feminine energy – partnership, pleasure, devotion, and creative flow); this year, Mercury is the ruling planet. This change will bring about a noticeable shift in the collective orientation, from pleasure and devotion to movement, clarity, and mental focus. Mercury, as ruler of communication, intellect, and exchange, now focuses more intensely on our thinking, our language, and how we receive and share information. While the last cycle primarily emphasized feeling, enjoyment, and being, we are now encouraged to discern more consciously, analyze, and clearly express our inner truth. It is a time when everything will move much faster, and insights will suddenly flash by. In combination with the Year of the Fire Horse, Mercury's energy also unfolds an intense dynamic. The Fire Horse represents courage, expressiveness, and the inner urge to show oneself freely and unfiltered. In conjunction with Mercury, this means: Our truth no longer just wants to be thought, but spoken and lived. Especially in light of the existing system of illusion, even more truths will now come to light, and even more people will share their inner views and insights with the world. It's actually an ideal time to do just that, whether in your personal life or even via social media. And since Neptune moved into Aries a few weeks ago after decades, which also symbolizes maximum unveiling, one can truly say that a year of truth and revelation has begun. With that in mind, stay healthy, happy, and live a life in harmony. Welcome to the new year! 🙂
3rd Moon Festival: Mabon (Autumn Equinox, approx. September 23rd). There seems to be a mistake here: the third Moon Festival is Samhain on November 1st. Otherwise, a very informative and good article about today.
Hi Reiner, first of all, I'm so glad to hear you liked my article. Regarding your suggestion, there was indeed a mistake, so thank you for pointing it out. It's corrected now. ❤️
